Charlie Sheen and his followers?

Charlie Sheen is all over the media right now. Why is so popular? How is he persuading people to follow him on twitter and go to his live shows? I don't understand his appeal. He seems crazy and I don't understand why just about everyone is loving this. I have to write a paper on this, any help on understanding this would be great.
