I saw a black creature (I thought was a mouse) It looked right at me, then hid. It was about 8am. What was it?

I chased it with a broom. I put out mouse traps that night, but they were still set the next morning. I have never seen a mouse there before, but I always heard scraping and clawing. It was black, about 3 inches long, with round ears. But it did not go in the kitchen. It jumped out of my bathroom sink, and then went under the couch. What was it?
