Lyrics in the Beatle's "Paperback Writer"?

Okay so I was listening to this song the other day (and admittedly singing along) when I reached the verse, "It's a dirty story of a dirty man and his ______ wife doesn't understand." Is the missing word "cleaning" or "clinging"? Both would fit with the song and both would be pronounced the same lyrically.
